Little things but look at the chaos

When you think of issues of Water and Sanitation, you think wow, is this also a problem? Well, many people have not yet realized the magnitude of the problems associated with lack of improved water and sanitation services. To many, it still looks like some kind of a joke.

When you go over the years WASH practitioners have been advocating for improved services for the less privileged in developing countries and wow its some heck of a ride. In some parts of the world of if you talk about people not having access to water, hand washing services, toilets etc. it sounds like some kind of a joke. All these seem like basic needs and one cannot do without them but in many countries millions of people don’t have access to improved water and sanitation services. Diarrhea and other water related diseases have become the order of the day.

In Uganda for example, only about 50% of the population has access to improved water sources and only about 20% have access to improved sanitation facilities. This has led to a high prevalence of water-borne diseases, such as cholera and typhoid, and has a significant impact on the health and well-being of communities.

To tackle these issues, WASH practitioners have been working tirelessly to implement programs and projects that aim to improve access to water and sanitation services. This includes the construction of boreholes, handpumps, toilets and other related infrastructure, as well as awareness-raising campaigns to promote good hygiene practices.

However, despite the efforts of WASH practitioners, the problem persists and millions of people are still in need of improved water and sanitation services. This is why it is important for governments, non-government organizations and other stakeholders to continue their efforts to address this problem and ensure that everyone has access to these basic needs.

In conclusion, the issues of water and sanitation are not a joke and should not be taken lightly. They have a significant impact on the health and well-being of communities and require sustained efforts from all stakeholders to address. Let us all do our part in ensuring that everyone has access to improved water and sanitation services.
